RULES AND REGULATIONS

(Subject to change without notice)

  1. The tournament will follow Softball Canada and CWFA (Batter's Box) rules, unless otherwise specified. No new inning may start after 1 hour and 30 minutes, except for the championship game in each division, which will have no time limit. In all time limited games, if the home team is ahead in the bottom of the last inning (as determined by the umpire, or when the 1hr 30 min time limit is up), do not finish the bottom of the inning, the game is over. Mercy rule of 15 runs after the 3rd, 10 runs after the 4th and 7 runs after the 5th or 6th innings of play will be in effect. In round robin play, ties after regulation will remain as ties. In playoff games if tied after regulation, the tiebreaker rule will be in effect in the next inning.
  2. If teams are tied for seeding after the round robin, positions will be determined by using the following criteria:
    • Win / Loss records. If still tied, then;
    • Winners of games between tied teams. If still tied, then;
    • Difference of plus / minus runs scored between tied teams (maximum of 7 runs per game). If still tied, then;
    • Difference of plus / minus total runs scored with all teams (maximum of 7 runs per game). If still tied, then;
    • Least runs allowed. If still tied, then;
    • Coin toss
  3. In case of inclement weather, the following procedures will apply if the tournament is rained out / cancelled:
    • During the round robin, teams will have their entrance fee refunded, less tournament expenses (determined by the tournament committee ... games played, etc.).
    • Winners of games between tied teams. If still tied, then;
    • After completion of the round robin, teams entering the playoff round will split their divisions' prize money.
    • After completion of any playoff games, remaining teams will split their divisions' prize money.
  4. Teams must be prepared to field a full team at all times. Teams must submit and confirm their official tournament roster with the tournament committee by the deadline. Only players listed on the official roster are permitted to play in the tournament. A player can appear on one tournament roster only. No substitutes from other teams participating in the tournament will be allowed.
  5. Teams unable to field a full team when scheduled to play will forfeit that scheduled game (default 7-0 score).
  6. The CWFA tournament committee reserves the right to insert a replacement team into the tournament / draw up to fifteen minutes before any scheduled game, if necessary.
  7. The protest committee will consist of the umpire-in-chief or deputy umpire-in-chief, and two CWFA Executive members.
  8. Canadian teams must be affiliated with Softball Canada and American teams must be affiliated with ASA. The use of illegal (nonaffiliated) players will result in expulsion of the illegal player from the tournament. Out-of-province or out-of- country teams must produce a Travel Permit from Softball Canada or ASA upon request.
  9. Entry fees will not be refunded after the application deadline. Entry fees will only be refunded if a team is not approved / granted entry to the tournament, or if the tournament is canceled as outlined in 3. above.
  10. Local Calgary and surrounding area teams must be prepared to play Friday night.
  11. All / both teams are responsible for scorekeeping for all games. Winning teams must submit score sheets to the administration trailer immediately after the game. In tied games, both teams must submit score sheets.
  12. Information and draws will be posted on bulletin boards near the administration trailer.

Playoff payouts will vary depending on the number of teams in each event and will be posted on the bulletin boards.

The tournament committee will try to keep teams advised of weather conditions and schedule changes prior to and over the course of the weekend as needed. Check e-mails, voice messages, and the scoreboard.
